Mission & Philosophy Statements...

The education program at Blackwater Community School is designed to reflect an educational philosophy which recognizes the following core values:

  1. Creating child-centered, activity based learning environments;
  2. Incorporating individual learning styles in the delivery of instruction;
  3. Implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum for all children;
  4. Encouraging adults to actively support their children's education;
  5. Demonstrating respect for others and self; and
  6. Valuing culture and language as a cornerstone for learning.

In order to support these values four goals have been identified:

  1. All children read independently by third grade and
  2. All students will test proficient/advanced in reading and math as measured by state standards.
  3. Students demonstrate knowledge of their language/culture
  4. Individual student attendance rate of 90% or better

In addition, the school board and staff are committed to the following principles:

  1. A school climate which fosters individual responsibility for behavior, acceptance of others and acceptable child/adult interactions.
  2. Cultural experiences which enhance positive attitudes toward self and others and creates an awareness of cultural heritage and language.
  3. Opportunities for community support through school sponsored activities.

In conclusion, the Board of Trustes, teachers and support staff actively support and implement the schools vision "Quality Education Begins Here."
